Run with It – National Youth Week 2004
Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Larry Anthony has officially launched the National Youth Week 2004 websiteand the national talent competitions giving young Australians the opportunity to showcase their talents.
“National Youth Week – from 27 March to 4 April 2004 – is the largest annual celebration of young people on the Australian youth calendar offering a wide variety of events and activities for young people.
“The theme for Youth Week 2004 – ‘Run with It ‘ – represents a call to action for young people to get involved and make the most of the week.
The website is the focal point for National Youth Week events and activities and features:
- information about how to get involved in National Youth Week;
- a comprehensive list of National Youth Week events and activities;
- full details of the five national talent competitions;
- ‘have your say’ – giving young people the opportunity to express their opinions on youth issues; and
- opportunities to ‘Win Free Stuff’
“In addition to the vast range of events and activities currently being organised by young people across Australia, the national talent competitions, give young people the perfect opportunity to receive national recognition for their talents.
“Each of the competitions—RockIT (song and music), WriteIT (fictional writing), ShootIT (film making), DesignIT (graphic design) and SnapIT (photography)—provides a unique opportunity to get relevant industry experience.
“National Youth Week started as a national event in 1999 and continues to grow. In 2003, more than 300,000 young people participated in activities and attended more than 2,000 events across Australia.”
National Youth Week 2004 is a joint Australian Government, State, Territory and Local Government initiative.
