Media Release by The Hon Larry Anthony MP

Green Corps now online

Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Larry Anthony, today celebrated National Youth Week with the launch of the official website for Australia’s landmark youth development and environmental training program, Green Corps.

www.greencorps.com.au will provide access to a range of information on Green Corps, from upcoming project locations and rates of pay to discovering how previous Green Corps participants feel about the program.

“As one of the largest recruiters of young people in Australia, there is no doubt that this interesting and educational Green Corps site will be well accessed,” Mr Anthony said.

“Green Corps recruits up to 1,700 young Australians aged between 17 and 20 years each year and we expect the majority of these applications will now be through this new site.

“Green Corps is a great voluntary program which helps young Australians to engage with the community while providing them with the opportunity to conserve, preserve and restore Australia’s natural environment and cultural heritage.

“The program provides quality training and experience through structured and supervised natural environment conservation projects and cultural heritage restoration projects.

“Program participants get hands-on experience working on environmental projects and gain other skills from website development and desktop publishing to media relations, education and event management.

“The Commonwealth has committed $69 million to the program, contracting Job Futures and Greening Australia to deliver the program nationally from 2002 to 2005,” Mr Anthony said.
