Youth Roundtable to resume this week

Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Larry Anthony, today said he was looking forward to meeting again with 2002 National Youth Roundtable members when they met at Parliament House in Canberra on Tuesday 17 and Wednesday 18 September.

“2002 Roundtable Members have focussed on issues around health, culture, the environment, living in a rural area, social cohesion and pathways to education and employment.

“When they come together in Canberra this week, the 50 youth Members will meet with Cabinet Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries, Senators and Members of Parliament to discuss their projects and the issues that concern them.

“Members will formally present the findings of their projects to Government on Wednesday.

“Previous Roundtables have been highly successful in promoting the views and interests of Australia’s young people. Many ideas and initiatives have been picked up by Government and communities.

“The success of the Roundtable is in the diversity of Members’ experiences and backgrounds. Whether studying, looking for work, working or caring for others, Roundtable members share a strong commitment to their local communities.

“The Roundtable gives young people the forum to improve the lives of young Australians, promote new ideas and strategies to deal with issues that concern them.

“I was extremely impressed with the group when I met with them in March. They have been working hard on their projects and I look forward to hearing their reports to Government this week,” Minister Anthony said.
