Australia’s largest corporate virtual training facility launched today

The largest corporate virtual training facility in Australia was launched today by the Minister for Community Services, Larry Anthony.

“Centrelink’s Virtual College is the only public sector in-house virtual college in the country and will provide Centrelink’s 22,000 staff with access to state-of-the-art facilities.

“The College operates through Centrelink’s Education Network. The interactive broadcasting facility will integrate video, voice and data to deliver live and real time training and education to 350 sites around Australia.

“Staff from Broome to Byron Bay will get quality training without leaving their office. They simply log into an interactive video and voice system and communicate with a qualified, professional trainer.

“Staff can study for nationally recognised diplomas and certificates in Business Services, Telecommunications and Community Services. Indigenous employees can access Cadetship and Scholarship Programs offered by the College.

“The College provides training which will give Centrelink employees the tools to develop their skills and knowledge and assist in delivering excellence in customer service to Centrelink’s 6.4 million customers.

“It provides career options for staff by enabling them to gain nationally recognised and accredited qualifications, instilling in employees a culture of lifelong learning.

“Margaret Hamilton has taken the position of Dean of the College. She has extensive experience in online and distance education and training both in Australia and overseas.

“While Labor talks about making Australia a world leader in online education, the Coalition Government is doing it. Centrelink is leading the way in virtual education,” Mr Anthony said.
