Centrelink to provide relief for North Coast dairy farmers
A new component to the Government’s Flood Assistance Package will be administered by Centrelink, Minister for Community Services, Larry Anthony, said today.
“This new component will provide relief for dairy farmers affected by the recent flooding in northern NSW.
“The addition of the Fodder/Pasture Grant to the Flood Assistance Package will help relieve the pressure that the floods have placed on dairy farmers in the region.
“The Grant will provide payment of up to $15,000 for farm enterprises which derive the majority of their income from dairying, and which have suffered loss of or damage to improved pasture, fodder or stock feeds due to the recent flooding.
“To be eligible for the Grant, farm enterprises must be in the Natural Disaster Relief Arrangements (NDRA) area declared as a result of rain or flooding in November last year, or from January to March this year.
“The grant may be used for buying fodder or stock feed, or for replanting improved pasture. Grants used for pasture replacement will be capped at a rate of $200 per hectare.
“Centrelink will be working closely with local farmers and community associations and will conduct information seminars in all affected areas.
“People who believe they may be eligible for the Grant should contact Centrelink on 1800 050 585.
“I urge all affected farmers to contact Centrelink to discuss this grant and any other form of assistance that may be available to them,” Mr Anthony said.
