Government supports Waverley Industries with $420,000

The Howard Government will deliver $420,000 to Waverley Industries, which will help it expand its invaluable service in the disability business service sector and provide more job opportunities for people with disabilities.

The Minister for Family and Community Services, Senator Kay Patterson, today presented a cheque to the organisation, which will be used to support 157 employees and give people with disabilities a better environment in which to work.

“This grant will allow Waverley Industries to relocate its existing warehouse and improve on-site facilities to make this a safer workplace for its employees,” Senator Patterson said.

“Established in 1984, Waverley Industries has grown its successful business from a site originally designed for 60 workers to its current staffing levels.

“Waverley Industries undertakes packaging and assembly facilities for 270 clients, with services as diverse as assembling air-conditioners through to counting and packaging golf tees.

“The funding is part of the Howard Government’s $99 million Security, Quality Services and Choice for People with a Disability program, delivering quality services and working conditions to the 17,000 Australians with disabilities working in business services.

“Recently, Waverley Industries joined other businesses in posting their details on www.BizAbility.com.au, an online catalogue of products and services run by Disability Business Services enabling it to advertise its services alongside 230 independent businesses and organisations in 390 locations across Australia.

“People with disabilities want the opportunity to participate economically and socially in the community, and the Howard Government will continue to support workers with disabilities and their families,” Senator Patterson said.
