Mature Age Participation Guide launched

A new Mature Age Participation Guide will be available to help support the workforce participation of Australians 50 years old and above, Minister for Family and Community Services, Kay Patterson, announced today.

Senator Patterson said: “This new publication will provide information about services and assistance available to support those people who want to enter or get back into the workforce.

“It also provides details for people who would like to be more involved in the community.

“The Australian Government is committed to helping increase the economic and social participation for people over 50.

“The guide will be given to Centrelink customers aged 50 plus through a Personal Advisor and is expected to be available from April.

“Whether a person wants to enter or re-enter the workforce, move from casual to full-time employment, access training or undertake study, Centrelink can help by referring customers to appropriate services.”

As part of the Australians Working Together welfare reform package, the Australian Government is committed to giving mature aged people better support and more personal attention to maintain an active lifestyle.

Senator Patterson said the Government is committed to driving cultural change in businesses across Australia.

“Businesses need to be aware that mature aged Australians contribute valuable skills, experience and knowledge to businesses and communities.

“The Prime Minister’s Community Business Partnership Committee is investigating how we can remove barriers for mature workers and increase their participation,” Senator Patterson said.
