$80,000 for a conversation for the future

A new youth survey is set to capture the policy ideas of young Australia with Minister for Community Services Senator Nigel Scullion today announcing funding of $80 000 for the United Nations Youth Association (UNYA) to conduct the Youth Speak: A Conversation for the Future survey.

‘This survey will be conducted by young people, for young people. However, it’s much more than a data collection exercise; rather, it’s a process to generate and develop ideas,’ Senator Scullion said.

‘Further, it is not just a survey but will involve a series of workshops and a National Summit in order to flesh out the ideas of young Australian’s into practical policy proposals.

‘Due to UNYA’s international networks we could see other countries follow Australia’s lead and use this survey as a prototype for an investigation into the policy ideas of their young people.

‘The survey will gather information on issues determined by young people and provide an insight into what strategies they believe will assist their journey through adolescence and help them maximise their potential.

‘The Australian Government values the contributions of young people to the community and this survey will highlight how all levels of government can continue to improve services and opportunities for young people.

‘By providing financial support for this UNYA initiative, the Australian Government is demonstrating its strong and ongoing commitment to young people and to consultation with young people,’ Senator Scullion said.
UNYA is a national, non-profit, community based organisation run by young people for young people, which aims to foster youth awareness and participation in international issues and political processes. It provides opportunities for youth participation, development and engagement with the international community, government and society.
