Aussie Sweets opening helps people with disability

Australian Government funding of over $4 million a year through the Disability Employment Assistance Program has allowed Aussie Sweets to relocate to a new complex at Auburn.

Minister for Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, Mal Brough, who officially opening the complex today, said the relocation of the complex increased the opportunities for people with disabilities to participate in the workforce.

"This new site will allow Aussie Sweets to expand production, add to the product line and most importantly, continue to provide meaningful and enjoyable employment opportunities to people with disability," Mr Brough said.

"The Government contributes over $4 million a year to Cumberland Industries from the Disability Employment Assistance Program to help support more than 400 employees with a disability.

"The Disability Employment Assistance Program offers employment, support and assistance to people with a disability, enabling them to enjoy the same basic rights and opportunities available to all working Australian.

"Aussie Sweets is also one of the disability business services included on the BizAbility website, a website that promotes and sell products online. This website is another Australian Government initiative and is proving to be very popular with customers and businesses.

"The Australian Government will continue assist business services that provide ongoing assistance for people with disability and their local communities."
