Competition showcases talented young Aussies
A break-dancing hip-hop group, a Tasmanian photography student and a young lawyer were among the National Youth Week Talent Competition winners announced today.
Minister for Community Services, Senator Nigel Scullion said a high standard had been set by the hundreds of entries that had been received from right across Australia.
‘Congratulations to all the entrants, particularly the winners who emerged from the extremely tough selection process,’ Senator Scullion said.
‘From the five categories, RockIT (music), WriteIT (short stories), ShootIT (film), DeisgnIT (graphic design) and SnapIT (photography), Industry Awards and People’s Choice Award winners have been chosen,’ Senator Scullion said.
‘The Industry Awards were selected by an expert in the creative field for each competition, showing these young Australians really have what it takes to make a name for themselves in their chosen industry.
‘RockIT winners will receive a $5000 gift voucher to spend at Allan’s Music stores, while WriteIT and DesignIT winners will be helped along in their chosen fields with an iMac computer package.
‘Winners in the ShootIT category will be presented with a digital video camera, bag and accessories and SnapIT winners will receive a digital SLR camera, tripod, camera bag and accessories, both from Ted’s Camera Store.
‘People from around Australia were given the opportunity to vote for their favourites in the People’s Choice Award, with an amazing total of 22,310 votes registered.
‘All People’s Choice winners will receive a Casio digital video camera.
‘Yet again, these talent competitions have shown the flair for creative endeavours our young Australians have and I thank the industry representatives, sponsors and those who voted for supporting these competitions,’ Senator Scullion said.
