Funding for a haven in the west
The Minister for Community Services, John Cobb, today announced more than $200 000 in additional funding to Westhaven Industries to help the organisation purchase new equipment and seek business development advice.
‘Westhaven Industries is an Australian Government funded Business Service, which has been providing employment for people with disability in the Dubbo region for nearly 50 years,’ Mr Cobb said.
‘This additional funding, provided under the Business Services Assistance Package, will assist the organisation to remain a viable and successful business.
‘Westhaven currently employees 63 people with disability to undertake a range of activities including the production of sheepskin footwear, mail collating and packaging, production of wooden products and grounds maintenance services.
‘The collaboration between Westhaven Industries and the Australian Government assists in providing greater opportunities for people with a disability in the Dubbo region, enabling them to participate in the workforce.
‘I congratulate Westhaven Industries for their ongoing support of people with disability and wish them continued success for the future,’ Mr Cobb said.
The Business Service Assistance Package aims to provide practical assistance to business services to increase their long-term viability and their capacity to be self-sustaining business enterprises.
