Minister Cobb supports disability advocacy

The Minister for Community Services, John Cobb, today visited the Goldfields Community Legal Centre which is contracted by Sussex Street Community Law Service to deliver advocacy services to people with disability in the Kalgoorlie region.

‘By providing advocacy services and assistance like this, we can help people with disability participate actively in our community,’ Mr Cobb said.

‘Goldfields Community Legal Centre delivers advocacy services under the National Disability Advocacy Program (NDAP) which funds 73 advocacy organisations to help people with disability, their families and carers to get involved in community life as fairly and fully as possible.

‘The goal of the NDAP is to help people with disabilities be part of the community and to have the same rights as people who don’t have a disability, and to do this by involving their families when they can and should be involved.

‘It also helps people with disability and other members of the community talk, listen and understand each other and make sure services which support people with disability understand that families and carers are important and to include them.

‘The Australian Government remains committed to helping people with disability through the delivery of payments, services and programs,’ Mr Cobb said.
