Inaugural National Child Abuse Prevention Awards
The Minister for Community Services, Larry Anthony, today congratulated the winners of the inaugural National Child Abuse Prevention Awards at the 7th Australasian Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect in Perth. He also thanked those who were highly commended for their work.
“These awards acknowledge the enormous contribution made by those who help the most vulnerable members of our community, children who have been neglected or abused,” Mr Anthony said.
“The five award winners, and those highly commended, have certainly demonstrated their drive towards ensuring that our children and young people grow up feeling safe and loved,” Mr Anthony said.
The National Council for the Prevention of Child Abuse (NCPCA), which is funded by the Commonwealth Department of Family and Community Services, recommended the establishment of the awards as a means of increasing community awareness of child abuse issues and giving recognition to achievements in this field of work.
It is intended the awards be presented every two years in conjunction with the Australasian Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect.
Mr Anthony said it is important to publicly acknowledge and recognise the work being carried out across the country in preventing child abuse and to encourage others in their endeavours.
“By highlighting this problem, we can to get the message out that everyone in our community has a role to play in preventing child abuse and neglect,” Mr Anthony.
