Extra child care places for New South Wales

Minister for Community Services, Larry Anthony, today announced an increase in child care places in New South Wales.

“As part of the Federal Government’s ongoing commitment to providing affordable and quality child care services, an extra 265 family day care places will be divided between 14 services across the State,” said Mr Anthony.

“The majority of these new family day care places will benefit rural and regional families as we particularly want to look after those areas with the greatest need.”

The approved services will receive a total of $255,000 in annual operating grants, and $58,000 to purchase equipment and meet other one-off costs.

Mr Anthony said around $525,000 annually in Childcare Assistance will help eligible families using the new family day care places meet the cost of their childcare. Families could also be eligible for further assistance with their childcare costs through Childcare Cash Rebate.

“Family day care is particularly popular with working parents because care is provided from registered carers’ homes, enabling parents to make flexible arrangements,” said Mr Anthony.

“By providing a home-like environment for children aged up to 12 years, family day care makes it easier for parents to balance the demands of work and family.”
