Stimulus plan delivers jobs and new homes in Adelaide’s south

Joint Media Release with:

  • Amanda Rishworth MP, Federal Member for Kingston
  • Leon Bignell MP, State Member for Mawson

Tanya Plibersek today visited a $5.5 million housing project at Hackham where 16 new homes are being constructed under the Nation Building Economic Stimulus Plan.

The two and three bedroom homes, being built by Qattro property services, will be energy efficient and have solar power hot water systems and rain water tanks.

The project is part of the Australian Government’s $40 million social housing investment in the southern suburbs that will deliver up to 139 new homes.

Ms Plibersek said that Government’s social housing investment is building and repairing homes and creating jobs around Australia.

“Last week’s employment data shows that the Stimulus Plan has helped keep people in work and is continuing to create new jobs.

“This development at Hackham has created 16 new homes and at least 25 jobs.

Ms Rishworth said the new homes at Hackham were a boost to the local area.

“This development shows just how beneficial the Nation Building Economic Stimulus Plan has been for our local area, building new homes for the vulnerable in our community and keeping people in work.

“I am pleased that the Government is investing $40 million to build 139 new homes in my electorate,” Ms Rishworth said.

State Member for Mawson Leon Bignell said that the project at Hackham was great news for the local construction industry and will generate jobs for tradespeople and suppliers in the region.

“This project will also deliver 16 new homes in an area where affordable housing is greatly needed,” Mr Bignell said.

The $5.6 billion social housing initiative is the single largest investment in social housing ever undertaken by an Australian Government.

Across South Australia, the program will invest over $400 million to deliver 1,360 homes with many targeting older persons, people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and people with a disability.
