Homebuyers at Clarendon Vale to save under Housing Affordability Fund

An exciting $5 million project that will deliver savings to homebuyers at Clarendon Vale in southern Tasmania has been announced.

Federal , Tanya Plibersek, Tasmanian Minister for Human Services, Lin Thorp and Federal Member for Franklin, Julie Collins, today announced that homebuyers will each save around $45,000 on the cost of 110 residential lots in this development.

This new project is being funded through the Housing Affordability Fund, a $512 million Australian Government program to save homebuyers money in new housing developments.

As a result of the $5 million project at Clarendon Vale, 110 subsidised residential housing lots will be available to homebuyers.

The project will result in significant urban renewal and will lead to a better mix of public and private housing.

“This new project is a great outcome for Clarendon Vale,” Ms Plibersek said.

“Potential homebuyers will each save around $45,000 on the cost of 110 residential lots in this development.

“The funding will pay for much of the infrastructure required to create 60 residential lots in Stage One and 50 residential lots in Stage Two to create serviced, separate title residential allotments for private sale new home buyers,” Ms Plibersek said.

Ms Thorp said: “Eligible purchasers will include people wishing to take advantage of a cheap block to build a home of their own, as well as charitable organisations.

“This development will increase private ownership at Clarendon Vale – a key to improving the social, environmental and economic fabric of the community.

“I am particularly delighted that $1.2 million has been earmarked for a children’s access centre for Clarendon Vale, with construction due for completion by December next year.”

Ms Collins said: “I am delighted that the Rudd Government is investing $5 million in this project.

“It is a great example of what can be delivered when all three levels of government work constructively together.

“The cost savings through this project will help working families in this area to buy their own home.”
