The Morrison Government is backing-in an innovative Redfern organisation with a $140,000 investment that will drive social change.

Minister for Families and Social Services Anne Ruston said the National Centre of Indigenous Excellence would receive the funding to expand its services and create more opportunities for Indigenous Australians.

“The centre provides programs and services that are designed to create lasting benefits,” Minister Ruston said.

“It supports 7200 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people by providing TAFE training, housing assistance, counselling, support into work and mentoring.

“The funding will enable the centre to further develop its services and expand its operations.”

Senator for New South Wales Andrew Bragg said the National Centre is doing great work in the Redfern and wider New South Wales community addressing areas of social need and is making a difference to people’s lives.

“By providing this local organisation with $140,000 of specialist support they will be able to build their capacity to deliver more services and opportunities for young Indigenous Australians.”

The grant has been provided under the Morrison Government’s $7 million Sector Readiness Fund.
