$1 million boost for the Northern Territory Tripartite Forum
The Federal Assistant Minister for Children and Families, the Hon Michelle Landry MP, has today announced one-off funding of $1 million to support the Northern Territory Government Reform Management Office in their role as Secretariat for the Children and Families Tripartite Forum (Tripartite Forum).
Established in 2018, the Tripartite Forum oversees and provides advice on a range of reforms to help at-risk children who are involved in the child protection and youth justice systems in the Northern Territory – with a particular focus on Aboriginal families.
Assistant Minister Landry said the Morrison Government remained committed to improving the lives of the Territory’s young people and families.
“Importantly, this new funding will allow the Tripartite Forum to progress the development of the 10 Year Generational Strategy for Children and Families,” Assistant Minister Landry said.
“The systemic failings in the youth detention centres and child protection systems of the Northern Territory are a serious concern, and they need to be addressed. From a Commonwealth perspective, we will continue to work with all levels of government, and the community sector, to find effective solutions.”
“By strengthening the Tripartite Forum with an extra $1 million, I’m confident that this contribution will help us come closer to achieving that goal,” Assistant Minister Landry said.
The next meeting of the Tripartite Forum will be held in September.
