Delivering the NDIS: Annual price review leads to simpler, more flexible scheme

The Morrison Government has continued its delivery of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) today releasing the results of the 2020-21 NDIS Price Review.

Minister for the National Disability Insurance Scheme, Stuart Robert, said the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) is making improvements to NDIS pricing that better meets the needs of NDIS participants, their families, carers and providers across the NDIS market while maintaining the financial sustainability of the Scheme.

The NDIS Price Guide and Support Catalogue is being released ahead of the new market settings becoming effective on 1 July, consistent with the commitment made to provide greater certainty and clarity for the 364,000 participants receiving NDIS supports and their providers.

Mr Robert said there were new initiatives included in the Price Guide that would better empower people with a disability to find employment and support people with psychosocial disability to achieve their goals.

‘While we continue the hard work of keeping people with disability safe from the coronavirus, we are also keeping an eye to continuing the rollout of the NDIS,’ Mr Robert said.

‘It is imperative people with disability get value for money for their supports and providers are confident in their ability to continue to provide services. I’m satisfied the new NDIS Price Guide has found the right balance to continue the growth and success of this world-first Scheme.’

Other significant outcomes of the NDIS Price Review include:

  • The ability for providers to claim non-labour costs associated with travel, encouraging wider service delivery and greater choice for participants in regional and remote areas;
  • Simplification of the pricing arrangements for group-based supports and the introduction of programs of supports to offer more choices for participants; and
  • Expand and diversify employment opportunities for participants.

Updates to the NDIS Price Guide come after extensive consultation with participants, providers and the wider disability sector, as part of the 2020-21 Price Review. The report for the Annual Price Review, and an updated NDIS Price Guide and Support Catalogue for 2020-21 can be viewed on the NDIS website at www.ndis.gov.au.
