NDIS rolls out across the Wheatbelt

Western Australians living in the Wheatbelt region will join more than 160,000 Australians already participating in the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) from 1 July 2018.

The Wheatbelt region covers the following areas: Beverley, Boddington, Brookton, Bruce Rock, Chittering, Corrigin, Cuballing, Cunderdin, Dalwallinu, Dandaragan, Dowerin, Dumbleyung, Gingin, Goomalling, Kellerberrin, Kulin, Kondinin Koorda, Lake Grace, Merredin, Moora, Mount Marshall, Mukinbudin, Narembeen, Narrogin, Northam, Nungarin, Pingelly, Quairading, Tammin, Toodyay, Trayning, Victoria Plains, Wagin, Wandering, West Arthur, Westonia, Wickepin, Williams, Wongan-Ballidu, Wyalkatchem, Yilgarn and York.

The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) will assume responsibility for the delivery of the NDIS in Western Australia from 1 July 2018, creating a truly national Scheme for the first time.

Existing WA NDIS participants started to transfer to the nationally-delivered NDIS in April 2018.

Assistant Minister for Disability Services, Jane Prentice said the rollout of the NDIS in Western Australian was an important milestone for people with disability, their families, carers and the broader local community.

“I am pleased to announce the start of the rollout of the nationally-delivered NDIS in Western Australia and I welcome eligible residents into the Scheme,” Mrs Prentice said.

“The NDIS is one of the largest social policy reforms in Australia’s history and is expected to  support about 39,000 people with a disability in Western Australia and 460,000 people nationally once fully rolled out.

“The NDIS will also create more jobs locally and generate local investment which will ensure people with disability have the assistance they need to help them achieve their goals and participate in their local communities,” Mrs Prentice said.

The NDIA is working with Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) and Local Area Coordination (LAC) partners to deliver the NDIS in local communities across Australia. ECEI and LAC partners help participants navigate the NDIS and connect them with other community services, where appropriate.
