Media Release by The Hon Dan Tehan MP

Innovation and partnership celebrated

Minister for Social Services Dan Tehan has called on Australian businesses to nominate their innovative workplace-giving program for a national award.

Mr Tehan said the Department of Social Services was sponsoring the ‘Most Innovative Employer/Charity Partnership Award’ at the 2018 Workplace Giving Excellence Awards.

“Australians have a long and proud history of donating their time and money to worthy causes, with an estimated 8.7 million volunteers regularly giving their skills, services and time to make life better for others in their community,” Mr Tehan said.

“The Turnbull Government is supporting volunteers through the $20 million Volunteer Grants round, which will help pay for the cost of essential items to make the work of volunteers easier, safer, and more enjoyable.

“Businesses are also getting into the spirit of giving and these awards will recognise the organisations and charities that are working to help others.”

Workplace Giving Australia CEO Jenny Geddes said: “Government support for workplace giving, as the most effective way for working Australians to donate, is absolutely vital. It’s wonderful to be able to continue this relationship with government as we strive towards our goal to see a million Australians giving through work by 2020.”
