Jenny Macklin
Social Services Minister Dan Tehan today paid tribute to the Hon Jenny Macklin MP, the Member for Jagajaga and Shadow Minister for Families and Social Services, who has announced she will retire at the next election.
“Jenny Macklin was elected in 1996 and served as Minister for Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, and Minister for Disability Reform from 3 December 2007 to 18 September 2013,” Mr Tehan said.
“The kind words being said today about Ms Macklin from all sides of politics are thoroughly deserved and warranted.
“Ms Macklin and I have enjoyed a constructive and friendly working relationship. We may not have always agreed on the best approach to an issue, but when we did, we worked well together.
“Ms Macklin served the Australian people to the best of her ability. She was passionate, hardworking and empathetic. I would like to thank Ms Macklin for her service to our country and for her personal friendship. I wish her, and her family, the best for the future.”
