Making the ACT more inclusive

The Turnbull Government will provide $2.7 million to make the Australian Capital Territory more inclusive for people with disability.

The Government is providing grants for 17 projects through the Information, Linkages and Capacity Building (ILC) component of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

Funded projects include:

  • A project to expand an inclusive playgroup model for children with disability.
  • A series of disability-led interactive theatre workshops to build the capacity of mainstream services to better meet the needs of people with disability.

Liberal Senator for the ACT Zed Seselja said the ACT-based projects would further increase the independence and community participation of all people with disability.

“These projects are about changing how we genuinely include people with disabilities in the community,” Senator Seselja said.

“It’s critical that our community changes as we implement the NDIS to ensure it fulfils its promise to empower Australians with disability with more choice and control, while also building their capacity to participate in community life, education and work.

“The NDIS is a world-leading reform that will improve the lives of 460,000 Australians with disability, their families and carers.

“The Australian people support the NDIS because they are prepared to provide a helping hand to help others.”
