Stronger Families and Communities Strategy – Successful SA Projects

Minister for Family and Community Services, Senator Amanda Vanstone, today announced $127,000 in Federal Government funding for projects to help five communities in South Australia address local issues.

“This announcement is just one of the first installments that will help support a number of projects all over the State which will have a positive impact on local communities,” Senator Vanstone said.

“The Stronger Families and Communities Strategy is a $240 million injection into the Australian community.

“This funding recognises the importance of finding local solutions to local problems and that communities are best placed to address their own issues before they become problems.”

The five different projects include:

  • The Adelaide Central Mission to provide parenting support for families affected by acquired brain injury
  • Barossa Light Development Incorporated to develop a youth action plan to address youth issues and concerns in the area
  • The Blyth Progress Association to use volunteer labour to construct a safe playground for children
  • The Hackham West Community Centre to employ a family worker to help parents with parenting skills
  • The Southern Rangelands Regional Youth Council to develop a number of projects to help young people in the area.

“The Strategy has a focus on parenting and relationship education, community leadership training, assistance for young vulnerable people, support for Indigenous families and communities and the development of volunteering.”
