NDIS comes to Murray Bridge for new office opening

A new National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) office in Murray Bridge, South Australia was officially opened today.

Federal Assistant Minister for Social Services Mitch Fifield said the office would provide a convenient local contact point for children with disability and their families, particularly those living in the Murray Mallee, Mount Barker and broader Adelaide Hills region.

“While many local families have joined the NDIS already, the Murray Bridge office will provide a convenient contact point for them as well as other families looking to join the Scheme in future,” Minister Fifield said.

“The work of this office and the feedback it receives from NDIS participants will provide important lessons that will inform the full national rollout of the Scheme,” he said.

“One aspect this office will focus on is working closely with the local Indigenous community to ensure the NDIS reflects their needs and they can access it easily.”

South Australian Disabilities Minister Tony Piccolo welcomed the opening of the Murray Bridge office.

“This office will make it much easier for people in Murray Bridge who live with a disability, their families and carers to access the support they need from the NDIS,” he said.

“More than 2830 South Australian children have been able to access the scheme, of which about 1840 have individualised disability support plans in place.

“These plans are helping children and their families to receive the services and equipment they need to fully participate in their communities,” he said.

The Murray Bridge office is the third NDIS office in South Australia and will complement the work of the existing St Marys and Elizabeth offices.

The South Australian trial site commenced operation on 1 July 2013 and is available for children aged 13 years and under.
