Holes in Children’s Week
Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Larry Anthony, today launched the advance screening of the Disney film ‘Holes’ at Parliament House, Canberra to promote the upcoming Children’s Week.
“Each year in October, Children’s Week celebrates the right of every child to enjoy their childhood and to treasure the experiences of growing up. It is also a time for the Australian community to celebrate the achievements of children as they showcase their talents, skills and abilities during the week’s activities.
“This year the Children’s Week Council of Australia, in conjunction with Buena Vista International, distributors of Walt Disney Pictures in Australia, have organised a national advance screening program of ‘Holes’.
‘Holes’, based on the award-winning book by Louis Sachar, is a fun-filled movie with messages of hope and what real teamwork and friendship can mean.
“This special screening is just one of the many events and activities organised for children and their families and carers during Children’s Week which runs from 18 to 26 October. The Australian Government has supported Children’s Week since it first began in Australia in 1978.
“We want to ensure Australian children have positive early childhood experiences and that they get the best possible start in life. That is why this Government is developing the National Agenda for Early Childhood.
“We need to raise the community’s awareness of the importance of our children and their importance to Australia’s future. Children’s Week is just one of the many events that can help us achieve this,” Mr Anthony said.
