Living Choices for Young Australians
To mark International Youth Day, Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Larry Anthony, today officially launched the Living Choices publication, outlining the Australian Government’s commitment to young Australians.
Mr Anthony said Living Choices will provide easy to access information and encouragement to help young Australian’s achieve their goals and make the most of their lives.
“My message to all young Australian’s is that we value your achievements and the contribution you make to our communities and the nation.
“It is important for all Australians to recognise and celebrate the successes of young people. They are a generation of whom we can be proud. They are healthier and better educated than previous generations, fewer are unemployed than in recent decades and the overwhelming majority are involved in some way in Australia’s social, economic and political life.
“However, the transition to independence is not always easy and some young people do fall through the cracks. The Australian Government is committed to supporting these people through difficult times. We believe it is important for every young person to have the opportunity to reach his or her full potential.
“The series of Living Choices publications will provide better access to information about the Government’s youth policies and programs. A brochure, CD ROM, Overview and Complete Guide have been produced. The products are also complemented by the Government’s youth website the source.
“I encourage all young people, and others interested in youth affairs to use the Living Choices publications to find out how the Government’s policies and programs are responding to the diverse needs of young Australians,” Mr Anthony said.
MEDIA NOTE: Mr Anthony will be hosting an online chat session today discussing the new Living Choices publications at the Talk it Up website available at www.thesource.gov.au/talkitup
