Getting Interactive with Government
Young Australians can get information on everything the Federal Government can offer them through the Youth Portal, launched today by Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Larry Anthony.
“The Youth Portal is the Coalition Government’s new one-stop shop web site for young people. It will give young people quick and easy access to information on Commonwealth Government initiatives relevant to young people,” Mr Anthony said.
The Youth Portal will have:
- The latest youth news;
- Information on Commonwealth Government programs and services;
- Research focusing on young people;
- A comprehensive calendar of youth events in Australia and overseas;
- The Commonwealth Government Youth Discussion list, Youth.Comm; and
- All the new services the Commonwealth Government is providing for young people.
“So whether a young person is looking for the latest news on the hygiene standards for body piercing or information on rural leadership programs, the Youth Portal will provide the answer.
“Today’s young Australians are better educated than ever before. They are increasingly eager for information about the services and issues that concern them.
“At least 75 per cent of young people have used the Internet, while around one in four surf the web at least once a week. This makes the Youth Portal an ideal way to deliver information to young people in an accessible, interesting and relevant way.
“Young people around the country will be enjoying many of the Youth Week events being held over the coming days. During the week I encourage young people to log on to the Youth Portal and find out what the Commonwealth Government has on offer,” Mr Anthony said.
