Nominations open for Child Abuse Prevention Awards
Federal Minister for Community Services, Larry Anthony, today urged organisations to nominate for the second biennial National Child Abuse Prevention Awards.
The awards acknowledge and congratulate organisations for significant contributions to preventing child abuse and neglect.
Mr Anthony said the Federal Government was committed to ensuring all children had a healthy and safe home life by providing funding each year to a number of national organisations, including the new Australian Council for Children and Parenting (ACCAP).
“We recognise and reward the effort that so many organisations put into addressing issues of child abuse and neglect with these awards,” Mr Anthony said.
The awards are presented in the six categories of innovation, excellence, rural and remote, valuing cultural diversity, indigenous culture and volunteering.
“Our goal is to ensure all children grow up in a safe and loving environment and these awards recognise the work that so many people do in achieving that goal,” Mr Anthony said.
The awards will be presented during the 8th Australasian Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect in Melbourne from 19 November to 22 November 2001.
Nomination packages are available from the Commonwealth Department of Family and Community Services on (02) 6212 9199.
