Anthony Salutes Newman
The Federal Member for Richmond and Minister for Community Services Larry Anthony this afternoon paid tribute to Senator Jocelyn Newman who has announced her decision to stand down from the Federal Ministry.
Mr Anthony said it had been a pleasure to serve with Senator Newman in the Community Services portfolio.
“She is a remarkable woman, serving with great distinction as a Minister in one of the most demanding of portfolios and setting the example for others to follow.
“Her list of achievements are too long to list but highlights of her career would have to include the recent social security reform announcement that will change the face of welfare in this country.”
Mr Anthony said Senator Newman had been much more than just another colleague, working in politics.
“I have had a special relationship with the Senator. My father worked in Government with Senator Newman’s late husband Kevin and that link has been continued in the Howard/Anderson Government.
“Naturally I wish her all the very best and I am sure all Australians will pay tribute to her strength, her courage in the face of adversity and her commitment to decency and fair play,” Mr Anthony said.
