Growers Can Now Claim Sugar Package
Cane growers can now claim assistance under the Government’s Sugar Industry Assistance Package, Minister for Community Services, Larry Anthony said today.
“To make a claim, cane growers in Queensland, New South Wales and Western Australia can call Centrelink’s special sugar package hotlines or visit their local Centrelink office. Centrelink’s web site, www.centrelink.gov.au, will contain relevant information later this week,” said Mr Anthony.
The hotline numbers are:
- Queensland – 13 2850
- NSW – (02) 6626 8013
- WA – (08) 9168 2851
“The Government will provide financial assistance to eligible cane growers as part of our ongoing commitment to rural and regional Australia,” Mr Anthony said.
“The package consists of five elements which will be delivered by Centrelink as the Commonwealth one-stop-shop:
- income support payments;
- interest rate relief for replanting;
- interest rate subsidy for general sugar industry assistance;
- access to financial counselling assistance; and
- access to existing programmes.
“Centrelink is working closely with local farmer groups, community and cane growers associations and will be holding local information sessions,” said Mr Anthony.
“Details of these sessions will be advertised in local media outlets.”
