Labor’s child care plans exposed as an irresponsible stunt
"Labor’s response to the child care data I released today shows its policy is no more than an irresponsible stunt," Minister for Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, Mal Brough, said today.
"Jenny Macklin has admitted that she won’t even consider where Labor would establish its proposed 260 new child care centres until after the election…..if they win!
"How can Labor commit to spending $200 million of taxpayers funds on new child care centres and not have any idea where they will go or even if there is a need?
"Labor’s had this plan for more than a year – and still can’t tell us where these centres would go.
"As Child Care Queensland has today said, Labor should revisit its proposal.
"Given better information about the availability of child care places, Labor should dump its policy because it represents a real risk to existing centres – including council-run centres, not for profit and the private sector.
"Jenny Macklin’s statements today show why you can’t trust Labor with important financial decisions."
