New Web Resources for Families and Communities

As part of eGovernment Week, two websites are being launched that will put a host of relevant government resources right at the fingertips of Australian families and communities.

The Families and Communities Portals will provide a central point for families and communities to access government resources and services. These websites will end the need to search dozens of web sites to find the right information.

Through the Families Portal, at www.families.gov.au, every member of the family can access information on the issues affecting them, from activities for the kids, to starting a family, retirement and bereavement.

Whether families need an online calculator to do their tax returns, or a link to family history research websites, the Families Portal is the place to go.

The Communities Portal, at www.community.gov.au, helps Australians find relevant, up-to-date information on communities and government services.

The portal has information on more than 250 community topics, relevant internet tools and tutorials, and links to thousands of resources provided by all levels of government, and the non-government sector.

The Communities Portal helps people to strengthen their communities by providing access to information on community development, managing and developing community organisations, as well as getting involved in volunteering.

At least 72 per cent of Australians over 16 have access to the internet and we are committed to utilising the technology to make accessing government services even easier and more convenient.

The Portals are up and running now. I encourage families and community members to check them out and discover the range of services governments have to offer.
