Just Add You for successful Youth Week

Just Add You is the theme for the seventh annual National Youth Week (NYW), where thousands of events, concerts and competitions will be held to celebrate Australia’s youth from April 1 to 9, 2006.

The Parliamentary Secretary for Children and Youth Affairs, the Hon Sussan Ley, said NYW was the largest single celebration of young people on the Australian calendar and urged young Australians to become involved by logging on to www.youthweek.com.

“NYW activities will be held for almost four million young Australians including students from around 2,500 high schools, and up to 600,000 young Australians at universities and TAFE colleges,” Ms Ley said.

“The national website will have information on events throughout the country, as well as ways for young people to get involved in the activities, win prizes, enter talent competitions and voicing opinions on issues relevant to them.

“Young people are involved in planning, managing and, most importantly, participating in all the events and activities, including concerts, festivals and forums.

“As part of NYW there will be five National Talent Competitions for young Australians, aged between 12 and 25.

“Last year, 40,000 young Australians voted on more than 400 entries in the talent competitions – WriteIT, RockIT, ShootIT, DesignIT and SnapIT – with the winners receiving some fantastic prizes.

“I encourage all young people, their families and local communities to get involved in National Youth Week and celebrate the contribution our youth make to the community,” Ms Ley said.

National Youth Week 2006 is a joint Australian, State, Territory and Local Government initiative.
