Huon Valley community working with youth
Young people in Huon Valley, with the help of local police, will have access to a range of activities and a support network following the unveiling of plans for a multi-purpose youth centre.
The Minister for Community Services, John Cobb, today unveiled the plans while visiting the Huon Valley Police and Community Youth Club, to see first hand the service for young people in the community.
‘The Australian Government provided $400 000 in funding to help with construction of the Huon Valley Police and Community Youth Club, which will provide a safe environment for young people to participate in social, recreational and education activities,’ Mr Cobb said.
‘Young people will be able to participate in a number of activities including gymnastics, self-defence classes, arts and crafts and information technology as well as a recording studio for local artists.
‘The Club is playing a pivotal role in the community by delivering activities and positive peer support to young people and ensuring they remain connected with their families.
‘The Australian Government is committed to delivering support and assistance to young people and it is great to see organisations, such as the Huon Valley Police and Community Youth Club, working together to ensure a bright future for our young people,’ Mr Cobb said.
