National Youth Week 2005 Talent Competition winners announced

The winners of the National Youth Week 2005 Talent Competitions – RockIT, WriteIT, ShootIT, DesignIT and SnapIT were announced today.

The Parliamentary Secretary for Children and Youth Affairs, Sussan Ley, announced the winners and welcomed Australians to see the winning entries on the National Youth Week website www.youthweek.com.

“Being selected as winners is a significant achievement for these young people, as their entries were chosen from hundreds received from all over Australia,” Ms Ley said.

“Winners were selected through a process involving being shortlisted as one of five finalists in their age category, and then being chosen as winners after online voting.

“During the three week voting period, people from all around Australia placed over 40,000 online votes for the finalist entries,” Ms Ley said.

DesignIT winners will receive a Toshiba Satellite A70 notebook computer; SnapIT winners will win a digital camera; a website will be created dedicated to the RockIT band winners; WriteIT winners will experience Northern Territory wilderness visit and ShootIT winners will win an amazing digital camcorder package.

All winners will also receive a work experience placement in their chosen field, such as a guest writer position at a national magazine or the chance to produce a professional song.
