Minister Anthony opens new Centrelink services for Yamba
Federal Minister for Community Services, Larry Anthony, today joined the Federal Member for Page, Ian Causley, to officially opened the new Centrelink service centre in Yamba.
Mr Anthony said the opening of the office is part of the Federal Coalition Government’s strategy to extend Centrelink services to people living in rural and regional communities.
Mr Anthony said this new strategy to extend Centrelink services will ensure that people living in communities like Yamba will have better access to benefits and services.
“The new Centrelink office will mean the people of Yamba and surrounding districts can access Age Pension, Newstart Allowance, Family payments, Retirement Assistance for Farmers as well as other Government services with out having to travel hundreds of miles,” Mr Anthony said.
“This new office is just one of the may built upon alliances developed between Centrelink and key commonwealth departments and agencies, as well as state and local governments,” Mr Anthony said.
Mr Anthony said Centrelink will be using modern technology to bring Government services closer to the people.
“However, while Centrelink is placing an increased emphasis on technology to provide service solutions in rural and remote areas, we recognise the importance of face to face communications which is why the Centrelink agent in Yamba has been established,” he said.
“With this new office, people in the Yamba area will be able to talk with experienced Centrelink staff in their own town,” Mr Anthony said.
The office is located at the Yamba Community Centre, Treelands Drive, Yamba.
