Larry Anthony appointed Minister for Community Services
Larry Anthony, Federal Member for Richmond, today said he was greatly honoured to be able to serve in the Coalition Ministry in the portfolio of Community Services.
“This is a very challenging portfolio and has a major impact, particularly on the North Coast and the seat of Richmond,” Mr Anthony said.
Community Services is part of the Family and Community Services Portfolio that includes the development and implementation of income security policies and program, services for families with children and people with disabilities, Centrelink and the Child Support Agency.
“My workload will increase dramatically, but I do feel this will give me direct contact with vast sections of the community who need government assistance and support,” Mr Anthony said.
The Family and Community Services portfolio accounts for approximately 33% of government expenditure, in excess of $46 billion.
Rather ironically, whilst his new portfolio involves support for families, this is an important week for the Anthony family itself.
“Jenny and I are anticipating the birth of our third child sometime in the next few days and this appointment will add to the changes in our household.”
