Extra $8.9m for NSW and VIC Emergency and Food Relief

The Morrison Government is providing an additional $8.9 million to Emergency Relief and Food Relief providers across NSW and Victoria.

Minister for Government Services Senator the Hon Linda Reynolds CSC said Emergency and Food Relief providers will give extra relief in Commonwealth declared hotspots.

“This additional funding will help services continue providing vulnerable Australians with food, clothing, petrol, vouchers or help with bills,” Minister Reynolds said.

“We know Emergency Relief providers are a real lifeline for people experiencing financial distress and hardship.

“Australians have been extremely resilient throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and we know this extra support would help many families through this tough time.”

This additional funding comes under the Morrison Government’s $200 million Community Support Package and has been recommended by the National Coordination Group established by Minister Ruston in April 2020. The group provides advice to the Government on how to best allocate funding to Emergency Relief providers to ensure it is distributed where it is most needed.

This funding works alongside a range of other financial supports available to people who have been directed to self-isolate, quarantine or care for someone who has COVID-19.

More information about emergency relief and service providers is available on the Department of Social Services website.
