Additional $12.5 million for Emergency Relief across Australia
The Morrison Government is providing an additional $12.5 million to 46 emergency relief providers in areas of urgent need.
Minister for Families and Social Services Anne Ruston said the funding would ensure emergency relief service providers could continue to support Australians doing it tough.
“The funds will be shared among providers in communities where there is high demand for support, including regions in New South Wales impacted by recent flooding.
“This top up will allow providers to support Australians experiencing financial hardship, by providing food hampers, clothing, petrol vouchers or help with paying a bill.
“The sector-led National Coordination Group was set up in April 2020 to advise the Government how to best allocate funding to Emergency Relief providers. We are committed to responding to emerging demand and I will continue to work closely with the National Coordination Group to ensure the funding is distributed where it is most needed.”
This additional funding comes under the Morrison Government’s $200 million Community Support Package and brings the Government’s total investment in Emergency Relief during the pandemic to $71.5 million across 197 service providers.
