National partnership to promote Australians with disability
The Morrison Government has partnered with the ABC to promote the work and contribution of Australians with disability ahead of International Day of People with Disability on 3 December.
Minister for Families and Social Services Anne Ruston said the Government has committed $120,000 to the joint initiative to showcase media products and creative materials produced by people with disability on ABC platforms.
“People with disability have wide skill sets and there’s a huge number of people with disability who are keen to, and capable of, making a significant contribution in the workforce,” Minister Ruston said.
“We are hoping to empower Australians with disability to pursue their career goals and highlight that they can be valuable employees to any organisation.”
The ABC’s Managing Director, David Anderson, said the broadcaster would mark the day with programs presented and produced by people with disability.
“The ABC is uniquely placed to increase public awareness, understanding and recognition of the contributions of people living with disability. Our line-up this year does just that with feature content on radio, television, online and on social media.”
Mr Anderson said presenters and content makers with disability had worked with ABC teams during the past month, to develop their skills, produce content and gain valuable employment experience.
Starting today, a range of ABC programs across radio, television and online will feature people with disability, including producers, co-hosts, writers and artists with disability.
