Fond farewell to Families Australia CEO

Federal Assistant Minister for Children and Families, Michelle Landry, has today recognised Dr Brian Babington AM, the outgoing CEO of Families Australia, for his immense contribution to improving the lives of vulnerable children and young people across the nation.

For the past 16 years Dr Babington has been at the helm of Families Australia, and has provided a major leadership role for many initiatives, including as the convenor of the National Coalition on Child Safety and Wellbeing (the National Coalition) and organiser of the annual National Families Week.

Assistant Minister Landry said the National Coalition has been a key partner in realising the National Framework for Protecting Australia’s Children 2009-2020.

“Under Brian’s leadership, Families Australia and the National Coalition have been important conduits for the views of many non-government organisations, groups and individuals with a passion for child protection and child wellbeing,” Assistant Minister Landry said.

“Their voices contributed greatly to the first National Framework, and Families Australia continues to play a major role as we develop the next 10-year National Framework.

“Brian has been an outspoken and inclusive advocate for the vitally important role of families, whatever form they take, and in particular for improving child safety and ending family violence.

“We have worked together with a shared vision of children in Australia reaching their full potential by growing up safe and supported, free from harm and neglect.

“On behalf of the Australian Government, I extend my sincere appreciation to Brian and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”
