End shame and silence this blue knot day

“The time for blame, for turning away, for hiding, for running and denying is over; recovery is possible.”

Federal Member for Capricornia and Assistant Minister for Children & Families, Hon Michelle Landry MP, says today is the perfect opportunity to help and support adult survivors of childhood traumas.

“Following the emotion and the relief of the National Apology last week, there has never been a more poignant moment to get on board with the message of Blue Knot Day.

“Blue Knot Day is a national awareness day developed by Blue Knot Foundation, an organisation supporting adult survivors of childhood trauma and abuse.

“Childhood trauma takes a toll on an estimated five million Australian adults however with the right support, we know that adult survivors can and do recover.

“I am joining the Blue Knot Foundation this year in asking Australians to support the estimated 1 in 4 adult Australians living with childhood trauma and I hope you can join me.” Ms Landry said.

The Coalition Government is committed to national reform to prevent future harm to children, as shown by the establishment of the National Office for Child Safety and by providing national leadership for the development and implementation of the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations to make organisations across Australia safe for children and young people.
