Perth chosen to pioneer new era for delivery of government services

Minister for Government Services, Stuart Robert, today announced a new era of government service delivery will be trialled in Perth.

From Monday 21 December, customers attending the transformed Perth City Service Centre can expect a new welcoming environment, specially tailored to assist older Australians requiring additional support.

Minister for Government Services Stuart Robert said the new centre will incorporate upgraded self-service facilities and digital support, appointment based services, and connections to specialist services using video chat.

‘We have a big and ambitious vision anchored in one big question: what do people want? Well, we asked Australians what they expect of us, and they told us getting help should be simple; systems and people should be helpful and intuitive; the service should be respectful of time and people’s circumstances; and the process should be transparent. Simple, helpful, respectful, transparent,’ Minister Robert said.

‘I am proud to announce Services Australia will be trialling a new face to face offering in Perth which will build on our vision and set us on a path for delivering better services for all Australians.’

As part of the trial, customers will be encouraged to provide feedback about the new service experience available at the centre.

To the enable the transition to improve delivery of government services, the current Perth myGov site will close for a two-week refurbishment from close of business on Friday 4 December. During the refurbishment period, customers can continue to use online services and mobile apps to do most of their business with Services Australia and the Australian Taxation Office.

Alternatively, if people require face-to-face assistance during this period, they can access Centrelink and Medicare services at one of the nearby service centres in Victoria Park or Innaloo. A digital service offer will continue to be available for the Australian Taxation Office. In addition, customers will be supported to access services delivered by the National Disability Insurance Agency and My Aged Care.

From 21 December 2020, the refurbished Perth City Service Centre, located at 770 Hay Street, will continue to operate with the same opening hours, from 8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday.
