Delivering the NDIS Plan: Report sets foundations for NDIS participant service guarantee
The findings of the independent review into the legislation underpinning the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) have been released today.
Minister for the National Disability Insurance Scheme Stuart Robert said the report, delivered as part of a Morrison Government election commitment, sets the foundations for a new Participant Service Guarantee, which will ensure faster processes and better service for participants.
‘The review’s findings reaffirmed what we have been hearing from participants, their families and carers and the disability sector – that while many participants have had excellent experiences and are benefitting from the scheme, many others have had frustrations with wait times, complexity of processes and a lack of understanding of their needs,’ Minister Robert said.
‘This report, prepared by independent reviewer, Mr David Tune AO PSM, made 29 recommendations into how to improve NDIS processes and cut wait times and red tape for participants.’
‘We’ll use these findings to update and clarify the legislation and remove barriers to a better NDIS.
‘The Government will respond in the coming weeks with more details about what specific improvements we will be making and how we will set the Participant Service Guarantee into law by 1 July 2020.’
The review and the Participant Service Guarantee are part of the Morrison Government’s plan to deliver on the promise of the NDIS, detailed in November 2019.
Since the last election, the Morrison Government has implemented a number of changes to the NDIS as part of this plan, including longer plan duration for participants and their families, increased and more transparent pricing for providers and a new NDIS employment strategy.
The review report and a summary explaining the recommendations are available on the Department of Social Services website.
