Delivering the NDIS: Over $105 million to build capacity of people with disability

Minister for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), Stuart Robert, today announced $105.9 million in funding for programs to build the capacity of Australians with disability to participate in and contribute to the community.

Minister Robert said 105 organisations across Australia have been awarded grants under the NDIS Information, Linkages and Capacity Building (ILC) program, to build more inclusive communities for all Australians with disability, carers and their families.

‘The grant round is focused on individual capacity building for people with disability and sees the largest single injection of Government funding into the sector since the roll out of the ILC Program,’ Minister Robert said.

‘The grants represent another important step forward in ensuring people with disability have access to peer support, mentoring and other services that build their skills, knowledge and confidence to be involved with and benefit from the same community activities as all Australians.

‘It’s vital to highlight that ILC grants are not just for NDIS participants, their intent is to increase and enable participation for all Australians with disability in their local community.’

Over 100 grants have been awarded to projects across the country including:

  • Australian Federation of Disability Organisations – for their program to build the capacity of people with disability, their families and representative organisations.
  • Children and Young People with Disability Australia – for their National Youth Disability Leadership Program encouraging the development of leadership and self-advocacy skills for young people with disability.
  • Women With Disabilities (Australia) – towards their project delivering peer learning opportunities via online peer support. The program will also develop a leadership and mentoring resource kit for women and girls with disability.

The next Individual Capacity Building grant opportunity is anticipated to open for applications in late March 2020. For more information and the full list of recipients, visit www.ndis.gov.au
