$5.7m investment builds NDIS provider capacity
Minister for the National Disability Insurance Scheme, Stuart Robert, today announced ten (10) organisations will receive a share of $5.7 million to develop practical tools and resources to help NDIS providers meet their important regulatory requirements.
These grants are the first under the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission’s new four year $17.6 million investment in building capacity amongst NDIS providers.
‘With over 7,000 current NDIS providers and nearly 120,000 current participants in NSW and South Australia, the Government wants to make sure the organisations – some of which are small and regionally located – have the resources to best support people with disability, Minister Robert said.
‘When the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission expands into Victoria, Queensland, Tasmania, ACT and Northern Territory in July, the number of providers subject to the new national quality and safeguarding framework will also increase significantly.
‘The NDIS requires a robust provider network that can support people with disability wherever they live and whatever their needs, which is why the Government is providing this funding.
‘What is so great about this program is the tools and resources they develop will be informed by experts in the industry and with insights of providers and participants and will be available to all NDIS providers across the country.’
Resources that will be developed include:
- A free, national online education and community portal for providers and participants
- Resources specifically for providers including allied health professionals, those delivering specialist disability accommodation and those supporting people with psychosocial and intellectual disabilities and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander NDIS participants.
The Support for NDIS Providers Program is administered by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission, the independent Commonwealth agency responsible for improving the quality and safety of NDIS supports and services.
