Register now for AccessAbility Day

Registrations are now open for AccessAbility Day 2018, an Australian Government initiative bringing employers and people with disability together for a day.

Sarah Henderson, Assistant Minister for Social Services, Housing and Disability Services, has encouraged employers to host a person with disability for a day between Monday 26 and Friday 30 November 2018.

“AccessAbility Day is an excellent opportunity for employers to give a person with disability insight into a particular job while getting to know the many benefits a person with disability could bring to their organisation,” Ms Henderson said.

“Last year’s AccessAbility Day pilot was a great success, with more than 240 employers hosting over 440 people with disability across eight regional and metropolitan areas.”

Michael Gower from Belgravia Leisure in Elizabeth, South Australia hosted multiple placements at Genesis Fitness and Little Para Golf Course during last year’s AccessAbility Day and said it was a positive experience.

“I believe working together is important to create positive social impact,” Mr Gower said.

“Participating in AccessAbility Day has been a great opportunity to provide a workplace experience in the recreation and sports industry.”

Employers and people with disability can register to participate in AccessAbility Day until Wednesday 21 November 2018.

Once an employer registers to participate in AccessAbility Day, a local Disability Employment Service provider will work with the employer to match their workplace to a person with disability interested in that kind of work.

You can register and find a number of useful tools and resources to support employment of people with disability on the JobAccess website.
