National Disability and Carer Advisory Council

The Assistant Minister for Social Services, Housing and Disability Services, the Hon Sarah Henderson MP, attended the National Disability and Carers Advisory Council in Melbourne on Tuesday 30 October 2018.

This was the first meeting Ms Henderson co-chaired, with Council member Mr Nigel Webb.

Ms Henderson acknowledged the work of the Council to date and emphasised the importance of focusing its work on improving the lives of people with disability, and the many carers who support them.

“It’s a privilege to chair the Council, and hear directly how government strategies can be better targeted and improve the lives of people with disability and carers,” Ms Henderson said.

The Council discussed its ongoing priorities in carer reforms, reinvigoration of the National Disability Strategy and employment reform. The Council also provided advice on the Productivity Commission review of the National Disability Agreement, the Disability and Arts Strategy and an accessible housing options paper.

The Council acknowledged the need for a strong approach to supporting people with disability alongside the National Disability Insurance Scheme, through the National Disability Strategy and the National Disability Agreement.
