NDIS brings hope and opportunity to Toowoomba

More than 1500 people with disability are now benefiting from support provided by the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) in the Toowoomba region.

Assistant Minister for Social Services and Disability Services, Jane Prentice, will today talk to local NDIS service providers at a roundtable event organised by the Federal Member for Groom, Dr John McVeigh, in Toowoomba.

Mrs Prentice said the roundtable will be a great opportunity for providers to discuss the opportunities and challenges of such a landmark reform.

“I am delighted to be in Toowoomba today to meet with key providers and discuss ways to build on the successful arrival of the NDIS to the region,” she said.

Mrs Prentice will also attend the official opening of the Toowoomba office of NDIS partner – Carers Queensland.

“The NDIS is bringing jobs and economic development to Toowoomba, but most of all it is bringing much needed support to people with disability,” Mrs Prentice said. 

The National Disability Insurance Agency and the Government are working to deliver the best NDIS possible and there are more than 5000 NDIS participants in Queensland.

Hundreds of Queenslanders with disability in Ipswich, Bundaberg and Rockhampton will get earlier access to the NDIS with the start date in the three regions brought forward.
